Unsung Heroes - Never overlook the importance of those closest to you

As I cross the finish line at the end of ‘The Race Across the Alps’ a feeling of overwhelming satisfaction surges from deep within my soul. Tiredness and pain masked by an angel as the reality of completing one of the toughest rides yet sinks in. It’s been a tiresome journey and as I try to regain my thoughts it’s evident that I couldn’t have achieved this alone. It makes me realise more than ever that behind every great moment there are many unsung heroes sacrificing themselves to support the dream. I wrote this piece for the final ever issue of The Ride Journal, one of my favourite ever publications, and quite a fitting piece I thought as the two brothers that put it together didn’t do it for profit, in fact they donated everything to various charities, but for the love of sharing their passion for cycling and for doing something cool. For me, that is the true mark of a great Unsung Hero. Thank you for all your dedication and hard work over the years, it’s been wonderful to be a small part of your journey.
